In it's 11th year, and like a fine whiskey, always getting better...
Whether you prefer it with the "E" (Ireland), or without (Scotland), whisk(e)y is the world's most famous libation. Come and enjoy a variety of the finest spirits available and unlock the mysteries behind them at the annual Irish Whiskey and Scotch tasting. Each year we line up some old friends and try some new brands as well. No doubt you will get to know a new whisk(e)y or two and we usually throw a suprise in the mix.
For 2009, the Tasting will be led by the Ambassador of the Classic Malts, Evan Cattanach, Master Distiller Emeritus, of Kingussie, Scotland.
If you didn't know that there was much more to appreciating whiskey than just adding Coke, coffee, or ice, or even if you are a well-tempered connoisseur of the amber aqua vitae, you will learn volumes, and of course grow as a person, at the annual Irish Whiskey and Scotch Tasting: the best whiskey tasting in the South.
Features:
- Special guest speaker from Scotland, Evan Cattanach
- Special whiskeys and products for 2009
- Cheeses, crackers, dips, and such furnished courtesy of Fenian's Irish Pub

Evan Cattanach – One of the greats of the Scotch Whisky trade. |
|
A native of Kingussie, Scotland, Cattanach began his career with single malt whisky in 1961 with the Scottish Malt Distillers - the production arm of Johnnie Walker. He spent the next 33 years managing the production of single malt whisky. He worked in all four of Scotland's whisky-producing regions at 15 different distilleries. During his career, Evan has worked at some of the most revered distilleries in Scotland including Oban, Lagavulin, Dalwhinnie, Cragganmore and Cardhu Distilleries among others.
Today Evan is one of trade’s superstars, who regularly travels the globe as an ambassador for the industry. Currently, he is representing the Classic Malts; a group of six of the finest single malt whiskies each representing a distinct scotch-producing region of Scotland. The Classic Malts include Talisker from Skye, Oban from the West Highlands, Dalwhinnie from The Highlands, Glenkinchie from The Lowlands and Cragganmore from Speyside. Evan is uniquely qualified for this assignment because he has personally managed four of the six distilleries.
Evan was named a “Keeper of the Quaich” in 1993 by the whisky trade society of the same name. In recognition of his service to the industry, he was recently elevated to the position of “Master Keeper of the Quaich” in April of 2005 in a ceremony at Blair Castle in Scotland.
