The N.O. Quarter Shanty Krewe is an ensemble of enthusiasts based in the greater New Orleans area sharing a passion for, and fascination in the sea’s music and lore. The Krewe is focuses on connecting shanties and water songs to historical New Orleans and its role as a world class port in the 19th century sailing trade as well as its reputation among seafarers for being a world class sailor town. The Krewe gathers for “sessions” and performs on occasions appropriate to our passion. We seek every opportunity to infect others with this dying folk art, thereby cultivating stronger choruses.
